Yashasvi Jaiswal continued his sensational Test form with a commanding 150* as India reached 290/2 at stumps on Day 1 of the second Test against West Indies at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, New Delhi. The young opener’s classy innings put India in control after captain Shubman Gill won the toss and opted to bat first.
India in strong position after Jaiswal’s century show
Jaiswal’s unbeaten 155 off 236 balls featured solid defense and elegant strokeplay. Partnering with debutant Sai Sudharsan (92), he added a valuable 212-run stand for the second wicket before the latter was dismissed by spinner Jomel Warrican.
India’s skipper Shubman Gill was unbeaten on 15 at the end of play, with Jaiswal anchoring the innings through the evening session. The hosts are comfortably placed at 290/2 in 85 overs.
Jaiswal’s record-breaking run continues
This knock marked Jaiswal’s seventh Test century and fifth score above 150, highlighting his growing dominance in red-ball cricket. The 23-year-old southpaw showed maturity beyond his age — cautious early on, then fluent against the older ball.
